Venezuela

Today’s dominant culture of Venezuela reflects a blend of indigenous and Spanish traditions, as well as regional Caribbean and Andean influences. Many of the country’s culture has been shaped by its rich history of migration: Spanish, Italian, African, German, and Portuguese form part of the diverse ethnic composition that is Venezuela; however, Carib, Arawak, Saliva and Chibcha people lived in village communities. Recently, 51 Indigenous groups were identified and recognized by the Venezuelan government. Arepas are Venezuela’s most distinctive meal, and are thick discs made of pre-cooked cornmeal. This doll was inspired by the attire of non-tribal Venezuelan women who wear either a dress or a combination of blouse and skirt; both have a large ruffle along the neckline, and the skirt also has ruffles in a material printed with flower patterns, highlighting the country’s indigenous and Spanish heritage.
